| What is the Perl path on these servers? | Since these are Windows NT and not Unix servers, you do not need to worry about your Perl path. |
| Why don't files that end in .cgi work? | Again, a subtle difference between NT and Unix servers. Simply change your extension to .pl instead of .cgi. |
| Why can't I CHMOD anything? | Windows NT servers do not require CHMOD to be run on any files. |
| Where is sendmail? | WSendmail.exe should be sitting in your cgi-shl directory already. You do not need to configure wsendmail.ini - that is done at the system level for you. If you do not see wsendmail.exe in that directory, please feel free to download the zip file. |
| Can you debug my script for me? | Though NovaTech does have experienced programmers on staff, this is not a free service, and is quoted on a per-job basis. We recommend using our support areas and support help desk before contacting us for specific script support. There are also numerous resources around the web to refer to, and your primary source of support should always be the author of the script in question. |
| What scripts work on your servers? | Most script archives (we recommend "www.cgi-resources.com") will tell you whether or not a script has been tested on the Windows NT platform. Most have, but it's always safe to check. NovaTech clients may access our online script library for scripts that have already been tested specifically by our staff. |
| What languages are supported? | Perl, CGI, Python, ASP, Tcl/TK, and many others. If you are concerned about a specific language being available and supported, please email support@novatech.net. |
| Do you use iHTML? I've heard that comes with WebSite Pro. | iHTML is an exciting language and yes, it is fully supported on our servers. You may download the iHTML reference manual zip file. |
| Does getting access to any of these languages, including iHTML, cost anything? | Not at all. Running these languages is an inherent function of our web server, and as such is free of charge. |
| How do I find out how much traffic my site is getting? | Very simply actually...just check your generated WebTrends report which will show you in detail what your site's traffic looks like. Click here for an example. |
| How do I get another FTP account? | We are currently working on establishing another series of web-based scripts that will enable our customers to do this on their own. In the meantime, please email us with your requirements. |
| Where is the support help desk? | Our support message board is located at http://www.novatech.net/helpdesk/, and is password protected. On your first visit there, you will need to create yourself a user id and password. |
| Are ODBC databases supported? | ODBC-compliant databases, such as Microsoft Access and SQL Server, are fully supported by our servers. There are setup issues required, so please let us know as far in advance as possible as to your requirements. |
| Why don't you offer technical support over the telephone? | Simply put, it's much more difficult to fully understand and answer technical question over the telephone. Questions are handled in the order in which they are received, and taking telephone questions delays our helping the clients who have already submitted questions. (Imagine waiting in line at your bank, finally reaching the teller, and having the teller leave you standing at her window for another 30 minutes because she's chosen to take a telephone customer's questions instead of waiting on you.) If a NovaTech representative feels it is necessary to have a real-time discussion regarding the problem, they will contact the client by telephone. |
| How can I use SSL to do transactions? | You may utilize NovaTech's secure server, or we can assist you with getting your own. Please see our Rate Plans for details. |
| How can I setup a store or use a shopping cart system? | We offer full support of the iHTML based StoreFront. Click here for a preview of what they look like when first starting out. The iHTML virtual storefront is fast and easily customizable via the web base administration screens that your account is granted access to upon completion. A one time fee of $100 will be applied to your account for each storefront that you require...which, in the world of off-the-shelf ECommerce packages is extremely inexpensive for the powerful options and functionality. |
